Collins was my MOTM again with a solid display in an otherwise very ordinary team performance...

We were the better team in the second-half and you could argue that we just about deserved the 1-0 victory... Just about...

Still, the rot has come to an end and let's hope that this improves the players' confidence and we can do well in our final run of games and try and get that 8th spot finish...

That would mean progress and the manager, whatever we might think of him at times, will have deserved a new deal...

I'm going to predict we will be top 7 net spenders in the league

I'm in agreement it would be on one of the major shocks if this squad with another 40m spend got relegated

Re: West Ham v Sunderland - Official Match Thread FT 1-0
All this get to the OS safely and Allardyce guarantees safety really pisses me off. Its pitiful for any fan to excuse a manager throwing games that we're not likely to win. Its certainly not supporting the team is it? And as for a manager that thinks like that it's shameful, cynical and contemptuous for the fans that turn up expecting their team to challenge for the game and try and win it. But then that is sophisticated Allardycios unique skillset picking and choosing the games to throw. It's also treading a line with fraud and corruption. I've had enough if he's still here next year I'm not going to those games he will throw. In all my decades of supporting West Ham we've never had a manager who deliberately throws games. For Allardycio it's a sophisticated tactical manoeuvre.

I'm ok with tiote 8m for a good mobile midfielder. Get diarra in as well and we have good depth and choices

We need a very good attacking mid in summer I'm hoping this is one of the 'world class' players

Re: West Ham v Sunderland - Official Match Thread FT 1-0
We need to upgrade the squad quality and depth especially in midfield. Players in the central positions that can provide us more mobile options. Tioati at Newcastle is being mentioned in rumours. He has had injury problems and is 28 so maybe not ideal but this sort of player in the squad too would improve us. He is more mobile than the likes of Nolan and strong and athletic but neat and tidy on the ball. A more creative type of player in there too. Not easy or cheap to find a player like Coutinho or Cazorla and they may not always play the 90 mins or in tough battles away from home but they are the creative type of option we do not have. We would be able to exploit Sakho and especially Valencia's pace.

Another striker would be needed too of course to give options.

The use of these options and different tactical systems might take another manager though ;-)

I would swop Evertons season for ours in a second. They've had some great days out

Re: West Ham v Sunderland - Official Match Thread FT 1-0
Creswell > Likes to attack/ Problem can be a bit nieve and his final ball in the latter season has been erratic

Jenkinson > Likes to attack/ Problem - he rarely shoots in good positions which should be instinctive.

Kouyate > Likes to attack / Problem his job in the team rarely affords him the opportunity, but he still has the instinct to attack.

Song > Likes to attack and make a killer pass > Problem slow in possession and a lack of outlet for the pass.

Downing > Likes to attack > Bottles it too often and has lost form to be dominating at the top of the diamond.

Nolan > Like him or not his career has been built on getting forwards and attacking > Problem far too slow.

Noble > Likes to attack > Too slow and too many touches often because of a lack of an outlet, looked his best when Tevez was here running his socks off together with him.

Morgan > Likes to attack > Problem just has games where he drifts and his main role is too cause problems going forwards.

Basically we need to off load some of the slowness and have back up for loss of form or injury we are also lacking a player in the Tevez/ Bellamy mould who consistently work their socks off and an outlet to attack like say Berkovic. This would make the team still a threat due to having options to rotate. If Zarate had kept fit and not let his fitness go he could have been the one to mix it up.

I'd fucking love it. Not sure the owners would. Its a distraction for them cos they want to get to the OS safely.
Last time we did we didn't last long though.

Monk and Eerie have Allardyce bang to rights.
Away to Chelsea came as a shock to me, because although I've always been anti-Allardyce I thought perhaps he'd seen the light and been converted to a more positive form of football. The season up until then certainly gave me grounds for optimism.

But to go away to Chelsea, when we're in a Champions League position, and then drop probably the most effective two players to the bench, and then state before the game "we have to stop Chelsea - it's as simple as that".

A manager with a positive and optimistic outlook would pick his strongest team and say something like 'we're here to win'.

Allardyces brand of pragmatic hoofball has no place here, and
the sooner he goes the better.

Yes. Correct. It was really fucking disappointing. Some of those games should have been won.
Terrible run and great to have been halted with a scrappy win.
If we get 54 points it could be seen as a half decent season. Lets hope we do.

In future we need a striker that doesn't get injured all the time.

If you're going to argue along those lines, then we would have been bottom in the form league table up until yesterday were it not for Hull having 4 strikers injured, and missing at least 5 clear cut chances against us in the first half of a game we had no right to win.

Downing has returned to his normal self. Its not like he's played brilliantly for years and then suddenly he's poor under Allardyce. He's pretty average and he had a half decent spell.

I'm not spinning anything. I'm telling it as it is.

the over achievement line came from allardyce, not the fans. that he chose to spout it just after surrendering to Chelsea and just days before the Arsenal home game shows what a negative season killing cunt he is

name a game downing's looked good in since his fat scouse son has again been a regular in the team? downing was superb before that cunt returned
